Orphan Sponsorship Program
Criscior, Romania
The Emanuel Christian Orphanage in the village of Criscior, near Brad, has been hailed by authorities as a model for the care and protection of orphans in Romania. It provides a family atmosphere where each child is given individual attention and is also taught to care for the other children as brothers and sisters.
The staff lives on site, further simulating the family environment. Older children share in the duties of caring for youngsters, and each night at bedtime, the entire extended family has a Bible study and prayer time.
International Children's Aids Foundation takes short-term mission teams to Emanuel Orphanage where they can play with the children, help consturct or repair the building, and provide little extras, such as the playground which a team built in August 1997.
ICAF also provides support for the upkeep of the Emanuel Orphanage through its Orphan Sponsorship Program. You can become the sponsor of a specific child with the tax-deductable contribution of $35 per month. The money does not go directly to that child, but rather to buy food, clothing, heat, etc.for the entire orphanage. However, 10% is retained in the US in specially designated savings accounts for the designated child. When he or she reaches the age of 18 and needs college education funds, those savings will be released to help the student go to college.
We ask that when you become a sponsor, that you promise to write to "your" child at least on their birthday and at Christmas. Please refrain from sending large gifts as these may cause disappointment among the un-sponsored children, and the money spent from shipping could be better used.
We will send you a photograph of your chosen child, along with letters from him or her to keep you appraised of the child's development.
