Roxana and her siblings (Valie and Brigite) were born in the town of Lupeni, Hunedoara. The children's parents Sorin and Rohzvita Badi Cantinean were married in 1984. During their marriage there were many problems, causing the children to be raised in a very unstable environment. The children were neglected and badly cared for. Following the death of their father in 1995, the children's mother as unable to care for them. She left them with their elderly Grandmother who was living on a small pension and already caring for another daughter her two children.

Although their Grandmother loved them very much, it was very hard for her to provide for them. The Children were then turned to the Commission on Minors' Protection. Roxana and Valentin (Valie) were taken to Emanuel, where their Grandmother knew they would be taken care of. The children were given extra medical attention they lacked early in life and are growing and maturing very well.

Only Roxana remains at Emanuel.  The situations these children endured have left scars that are slow to heal. Roxana is extremely pleasant with her other "siblings" and has progressed amazingly well. She has bonded well both with her other siblings at Emanuel and in her new community. Like so many of the other children, although she has had a troublesome background, she has responded to the stability in her new home, and works very hard at everything she attempts. With the help of tutors and the individual attention she receives at Emanuel, she progresses daily.
